Google Chrome OS, the new Google operating system

In mid 2009, Google promised that his operating system Chrome OS would be completed by fall 2010. During this year and a half its mobile OS, Android , has proven to be able to compete in this new field. Is the deadline marked. Will they make time to launch?

The latest rumors indicate that yes, or at least soon know all. Google has already officially Release Candidate status to Chrome OS and unofficially has leaked the November 11 date for a possible launch. That day would have been designated by a developer of the company in an open issue in the internal forum Chromium.

Google Chrome OS is an operating system that is unlike any other because it is based on the cloud through the “chromoting”, something like a remote desktop application to access computer applications through the browser. This peculiarity, which makes it extremely lightweight and fast, requires to be permanently connected to the network to function. Read the rest of this entry »

Definition of Operating System

Definition of Operating SystemThe set of software that enables effective management of resources of a computer is known as operating system or software of system . These programs begin to work just turn on your computer, and that manage the hardware from the most basic levels and also allow interaction with the user.

It should be noted that operating systems do not work only on computers. On the contrary, these systems are found in most electronic devices using microprocessors, system software enables the device to fulfill its functions (eg, a mobile phone or DVD player).

The operating system meets five basic functions: the provision of user interface, the resource management, the file management , the task management and support services and utilities.

As the user interface, the system ensures that the subject can load programs, access files and perform other tasks on the computer. Resource management enables the hardware address, including peripherals and network . The system software also takes care of file management, to control the creation, deletion and access to, and task management software being implemented by end users.

Finally, we mention that the support service is responsible for updating the versions, improving the security of the system, add new functions, control the new peripherals are added to the computer and fix errors in the software.

Mozilla proposes greater transparency offered by Android

Journal Ti: Although more well known for its open source browser Firefox, Mozilla Foundation is also responsible for a series of software products created under the same model and mainly based on the Gecko layout engine.

On 27 July, the company announced its plans for a project that seems to be the largest initiative in the history of Mozilla: an operating system for smartphones and tablets, called Boot to Gecko (B2G). In the ad, and additional comments explains that B2G be based on the Linux kernel and connectors available. Also used elements already created for the Android platform to make the system easier to implement in various units and terminals. As we know, Android is used by a wide range of manufacturers of smartphones and tablets. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Mozilla ensures that there is a difference between B2G and Android. “We intend to use Android as possible. Our interest is to use connectors on the kernel, like libc and associated elements. It is unlikely that we use Java APIs for Android.

Good to begin with things known, having both access to the units that interest us, “writes Mike Shaver, VP of Technology Mozilla. Being a community where everyone can express their ideas, Shaver admits that other approaches might have different or even better on the subject, so welcomes divergent views and proposals for B2G. Something that is very clear is that B2G minimally, or even absent, will offer a specific programming interface for a system. Applications may be based on existing or future API. The project will develop APIs that provide access to operating system functionality and the unit itself, such as phone, sms, camera, USB, Bluetooth and NFC (Near Field Communication). HP introduced the tablet with the Palm operating system, Web OS

The acquisition of Palm by Hewlett Packard, one of the pioneer companies in Silicon Valley, begins to bear fruit. More than 14 million iPads Apple has sold less than a year certify that no market for touch tablets. Although Google, somewhat disorderly, also wants its share of this market, HP’s bid is firm. The tablet by HP will reach the U.S. market in summer. The one-button design is very similar to the iPad.

With front and rear camera only allows videoconferencing with the front. That is, the device is intended for use and management of documents, but not for media creativity.

The touchpad, of 725 grams and 9.7-inch screen, can easily switch from application to application, even among the most resource intensive like games in three dimensions.

How could it be otherwise, will come with a complete line of accessories: external keyboard, chargers, stands and covers. However, it feels light and technology. The adaptation of the interface is very similar to the iPhone, either in the mail or in videos. Now that’s fully compatible with HTML 5, the new Internet standard, and the Flash content. The latter is perhaps the most critical deficiencies in the iPad. Read the rest of this entry »

Types of Operating Systems

An operating system (OS) is itself a computer program. However, it is a very special program, perhaps the most complex and important in a computer. The OS wakes up and makes the computer recognize the CPU, memory, do the key, the video system and disk drives.

It also provides the facility for users to communicate with the computer and serves as a platform from which to run application programs.

Known operating systems are:

1) TWO: The famous DOS, which stands for Disk Operating System (OS disk), better known by the names of PC-DOS and MS-DOS. MS-DOS was done by the software company Microsoft and is essentially the same OS that the PC-DOS.

The reason for its continued popularity is due to the overwhelming amount of software available and the installed base of computers with Intel processor.

When Intel released the 80286, DOS became so popular and strong in the market that DOS and DOS applications accounted for most of the PC software market. At that time, IBM compatibility was a need for products to succeed, and “IBM compatible” computers meant to run two computers as well as IBM did.

Even with the new operating systems that have flooded the market, DOS is still a strong contender in the OS war.

2) Windows 3.1: Microsoft made ??a decision, make an operating system that had a friendly graphical interface for the user, and as a result was Windows. This system displays on the screen icons that represent different files or programs, which can be accessed by double clicking them with the mouse pointer. All applications developed for Windows are similar, so it is very easy to learn to use new software once learned the basics.

3) Windows 95: In 1995, Microsoft introduced a new and improved version of Windows 3.1. Improvements include support this OS multitasking and 32-bit architecture, allowing applications to run best improve work efficiency.

4) Windows NT: This version of Windows specializes in networks and servers. With this OS can interact effectively between two or more computers.

The switch to a GNU

The switch to a GNU

My first experience with a GNU / Linux goes back quite a few years ago. Someone had commented that there were alternatives to Windows (which was then coming to us with Windows ME) and a sleepless night meant to be installed on my computer, and running, a brand new Mandrake. In addition to a pleasant feeling of triumph, my past I thought this Linux lacks a little bit to make it easy to use.

Since then, whether in work, school or at home and have been many distributions I’ve tried (and some of them just to see what it was, curiosity killed the cat, they say). I recall with pleasure Mandrake 10 and first steps of Ubuntu, fighting to turn the effects of Compiz, Emerald themes and cardiac arrest when they tore off the X. But if something is still keeping the feeling I had for over 10 years of Linux this lacks a little.

So, after giving a few laps I thought there were five pillars that continue to fail so that GNU / Linux can reach the general public. All of them can refute, but I think looking at them with a pair of objectivity are really big problems that are there on the table.

Android security flaw in 2.3.3 and earlier

Android security flawThey detected a security flaw in Android 2.3.3 and earlier allows attackers to access data from Google Calendar, Picasa and the list of contacts.

The vulnerability is due to the way the system works for login services on Android, because according to the report, authentication tokens are transmitted in plain text over HTTP, allowing a third party may intercept this information through a WiFi network and use it to their advantage.

The good news is that the bug has been fixed in 2.3.4 Android, however, until the update is only available on some devices, and most users ( 90% ) are using a vulnerable version.

For those still not possible to install this version, the best thing for now is to avoid using WiFi networks open or just connect via a 3G network.
